What is Google My Business? Why do I need one?

What is Google My Business, and why do I need one?

Google My Business often referred to as ‘GMB’ is a free tool that allows you to manage how your business shows up on Google Search and Maps. Your Google My Business profile includes things like your name, business hours, physical location, photos, and most importantly, customer reviews.

Many people think that GMB profiles are only for local businesses or places with a physical address but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Whenever Dencom brings on a new Realtor or Lender this is always the first place we start. We often ask our clients a simple question: “When’s the last time you Google’d yourself and what did you think of the results?”

Real Estate and Lending are unique businesses that revolve around client perception and personal relationship. While you might think that having an online presence might not be as important since your clients already know who you are, you should think again. Your current clients might know you, but those you haven’t done business with yet are another animal. If someone refers you to someone in the market, chances are high they are going to do a little research on you.

Google My Business is a very important way to stay on top of local search results as well.

Here’s a good example of a client of ours:

Here you can see when you google Nikki Owen that she pops right up on the side of Google’s Search results. You can quickly see her picture, reviews, and get contact information. You should always have a clear headshot and a quick way to grab people’s attention as well as quickly be able to contact you.

So what should I do next?

  1. Google yourself. See what results show up. Do you show up at all? If you do, are you happy with the results?
  2. Create a Google My Business account. Update it with all the appropriate information and photos. Make sure to link your personal website and contact information here.
  3. Get reviews! Reviews are so very important to google search results. You definitely want to get as many as possible, and quickly!
  4. Ask Dencom Agency for help! Are you not familiar with GMB or have the time to set it up? Ask us how we can help!
